Midland teens have starring role in flu video
Saturday, November 21, 2009

Students from Midland, Beaver County, star in a new music video the state Department of Health has developed to teach kids ages 6 to 12 how they can prevent getting or spreading the H1N1 flu virus.

The singing, rapping, dancing students in the video are from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland.

The video focuses on five steps kids can take to ward off getting or spreading swine flu:

• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then discard the tissue in the wastebasket. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve -- but not into your hands or onto other bare skin.

• Keep your hands away from your face; especially don't touch your mouth, nose or eyes.

• Wash your hands often with soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

• Keep frequently used surfaces like desks, knobs and countertops clean.

• Stay home from school if you're sick.

"By learning these five simple prevention methods, kids can play a huge role in slowing or stopping the spread of the H1N1 flu," said state Health Department Secretary Everette James.
