Anglers are reminded that bass season opens tomorrow at 12:01 a.m. The creel limit on most inland waters is six a day, at least 12 inches. On Big Bass Program waters and Lake Erie, it is four a day, at least 15 inches. For more, visit www.fishandboat.com.

Lake Erie -- Decent perch fishing was reported in 42 feet between Walnut Creek and Trout Run, and in 35 to 40 feet near Shade's Beach on the east side. Night-time anglers trolling the creek mouths for walleyes in 8 to 15 feet report the bite has slowed. Daytime catches in 25 to 35 feet heading west from Walnut also have slowed.

Allegheny River, Allegheny Reservoir (Warren County) -- Walleye, trout, northern pike and smallmouth bass were reported in both the river and reservoir and Conewango Creek on the Allegheny. Water levels in the tailrace were low Wednesday.

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County) -- Big numbers and sizes of bluegills and crappies were reported this week. Numbers of bass also were released with the Launch 4 area a hot spot. Earl Garrett of Pittsburgh limited out, and more than half were keepers. Tami Herrick caught an 18-inch crappie near the causeway last weekend.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County) -- Walleyes and crappies were hitting in recent days. Josh Green of Butler caught a 291/2-inch walleye Saturday night. Quality crappies were hitting around structure in 8 to 12 feet.

Lake Arthur (Butler County) -- Walleyes, mostly 20 to 24 inches and the occasional 28-incher, were hitting near the Crescent Bay boat rental and the north shore railroad bed. Shore anglers targeting panfish also were catching walleyes. Bluegills were on their beds. Post-spawn bass were being found around structure such as weedbeds, logs and rocks. Hybrid striped bass up to 8 pounds were being caught from boat and shore around the Bear Run launch and Route 528 bridge at night. Channel cats remained abundant. A 30-inch northern pike was released around Route 422.

Allegheny River -- Relatively slow action was reported in low conditions in recent days. The Venture Outdoors Downtown TriAnglers reported 16 releases off the North Shore Wednesday, including Marty Sanders of Overbrook's 111/2-inch smallmouth, Curt Collins of Whitehall's 113/4-inch smallmouth, and Russ Lang of Baldwin's 15-inch freshwater drum.

Ohio River -- Smallmouth bass dominated the fishing action in recent days, with the mouths of Montour Run and Little Sewickley Creek yielding nice catches. Philip Coffin and his father caught 60 to 75 bass, including half a dozen in the 3-4-pound range, in three days of fishing Memorial Day weekend. The best bet for walleyes was below the dams after action at the creek mouths slowed. Hybrid stripers were hitting at the mouth of Chartiers Creek, where some anglers were reporting small walleyes.

Raccoon Creek (Beaver County) -- A good crappie bite was reported in recent days.

Hereford Manor Lake (Beaver County) --Jason Shazer of Coraopolis caught an 18-inch brook trout Saturday.

Youghiogheny River -- The bonus trout stocking last Friday and good conditions this week drew anglers to the tailrace. Effective fly patterns were Light Cahills, Tan Caddises, Grey Foxes, Yellow Sallies, Blue-Winged Olives, as well as Fox Squirrel nymphs and scattered Sulphurs.

Youghiogheny Reservoir (Fayette County) -- Crappies were hitting Monday, with John Spittal of Ursina catching 20 from 10 to 14 inches. He boated a 29-inch northern pike the week before. He and a friend caught a dozen smallmouth bass up to 18 inches.

Dunbar Creek, Meadow Run (Fayette County) -- Bonus trout stockings are slated for today on these Youghiogheny River tributaries, where conditions were good this week. Volunteers should meet at 1 p.m. at the Route 381 natural water slide in Ohiopyle State Park.

Kooser Lake, Kooser Run (Fayette County) -- Both received bonus trout stockings last Friday.

High Point Lake (Somerset County) -- Numbers of smallmouth bass, crappies, and northern pike were reported along with improving water levels. The lake was drawn down for weed control last year.

Raystown Lake (Huntingdon County) -- The striper bite picked up mornings and evenings on live bait from the surface to 18 feet. Anglers caught lake trout 5 to 14 pounds drifting live bait or trolling chartreuse spoons on downriggers in 35 to 45 feet. Anglers caught largemouth bass jigging weighted soft plastics in weedbeds, or working surface lures over the weedbeds. Smallmouths hit around deeper scattered weeds and off rock points. Water was 74 degrees yesterday and a little off-color.
